Xbox rolls out support for Discord stream viewing

Xbox announced this week that it’s rolling out new features for Discord as part of its August update. These new features include the ability to watch Discord streams directly from the console itself, where previously users would need to use an outside device. This compliments the existing ability for users to stream their Xbox gameplay live on the chat platform.

According to Discord’s latest update, the new features include the integration of Discord in to the Happening Now tab of the Xbox Friends list. Now players can see which of their friends are speaking in voice channels or gaming, and jump into the call or chat with other users directly from the Xbox itself. This allows users to partake of most of Discord’s features without having to use their phones or PCs. Both Discord and Xbox pointed out that users may need to relink their accounts in order to access the new features.

The Discord updates are part of the larger August update for Xbox, according to the console company. Other updates include the addition of the Xbox app to first-generation Fire TV Sticks and third-generation Fire TV Cubes, giving more options for Xbox Game Pass subscribers to partake of their cloud gaming options. The other major update is the ability to customize installations on console and PC, meaning players can decide which parts of a title to install — especially useful for a title with multiple different play options, such as Call of Duty.
